Illustrator Lisa Hanawalt, whose comedic drawings have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine and McSweeney’s will be signing copies of My Dirty Dumb Eyes, her debut collection of absurd and hilarious illustrations from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 20. 5/23-25 Sixth Annual International Comic Arts Forum in Portland, OR

From May 23-25, the International Comic Arts Forum (ICAF) will be held at the University of Oregon White Stag Building. The conference, now in its 16th year, is “dedicated to promoting the scholarly study and appreciation of comic art, including comic strips, comic books, comics albums and graphic novels, magazine and newspaper cartooning, caricature, and comics in electronic media.” Speakers and guests include Douglas Wolk, writer Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Greg Rucka and artists Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon. May 23-26 Phoenix Comicon in Phoenix, AZ

The signature pop culture event of the southwest, the Phoenix Comic is a four-day celebration of all things geek including comics, TV/Film, Gaming, Horror, Anime and more, held at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency and Renaissance hotel on Memorial Day weekend. Comics guests include Neal Adams, Mike Mignola, Dona Rosa and many more. Day passes range from $20-$35 and full event memberships are $50, $60 at the door.
