As John Wiley continues to rework its business portfolio, the company reported that revenue for the first quarter ended July 31, 2014 rose 6.6%, to $437.6 million, while net income fell to $33.6 million from $35.9 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2014.

The revenue increase included contributions from some recent acquisitions, including CrossKnowledge and Profiles International which added $4.1 million and $5.5 million, respectively, to revenue in the period in Wiley’s professional development group. Book sales in the professional development group fell 3% in the quarter. Overall, revenue in the uit rose 10%, to $92.3 million.

Revenue in its research group rose 4% in the quarter to $254.9 million, while education sales increased 12% to $90.7 million.
