Speculative fiction press Candlemark & Gleam, founded by editor and entrepreneur Kate Sullivan five years ago, has been acquired by writer, editor and scientist Athena Andreadis.

The New England-based company has published 28 titles in a number of genres, but will focus on science fiction moving forward. Sullivan will remain at Candlemark for about a year to help with the transition. She hopes to release four new titles in 2016, mostly from new authors.

Another change for next year, at least for the time being, is that Candlemark will move to an invitation-only model rather. Currently it reviews unsolicited manuscripts.

According to Sullivan: "We'll be inviting particular authors to submit, including some luminaries of the science fiction scene. After the transition is well established, we'll open back up to receiving agented and un-agented manuscript proposals, although we don't have a timeline for this at present."

Andreadis is the author of To Seek Out New Life: The Biology of Star Trek and the person behind the science fiction anthology The Other Half of the Sky, which was published by Candlemark in 2013. A followup called To Shape the Dark, which focuses on female scientists, is slated to appear in the spring of 2016.
