The “maker” movement is one of the hottest trends in libraries today. But you don’t need a 3-D printer to get in on the action.

Drop in to the Librarians’ Lounge for a “Maker Break,” courtesy of DK Publishing. As the fair buzzes around you, take home some new crafting ideas—and learn how to make a tube owl from Jemma Westing’s Out of the Box, a collection of 25 cardboard model projects that engage kids’ creativity and thinking skills through hands-on learning and the application of science-based principles.

Westing, an award-winning U.K. book designer and “paper engineer,” has developed a number of activities to encourage kids to create amazing things with recycled cardboard—and to learn about science in the process.

Thursday, June 1, from 2:30–4 p.m. at the PW BookExpo Librarians’ Lounge (Booth 875).
