On The Early Show, Nancy Horan discussed her first novel, Loving Frank (Ballantine, $23.95; Brilliance Audio unabridged CD, $38.95; abridged $26.95), which PW explained “is a fictionalization of the life of Mamah Borthwick Cheney, best known as the woman who wrecked Frank Lloyd Wright's first marriage. Despite the title, this is not a romance, but a portrayal of an independent, educated woman at odds with the restrictions of the early 20th century. This spirited novel brings Mamah the attention she deserves as an intellectual and feminist.”

Book-obsessed authors on today’s Book Report:

Salt Lake City bookseller Betsy Burton with The King's English (Gibbs Smith, $15.95), a memoir of her bookstore. From PW’s review: “This delightful book is largely a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all who have contributed to The King's English, from gracious authors to friends and colleagues. Avid readers will be charmed by this intimate look at the bookselling business and will especially appreciate the many book lists included in these pages.”

Lewis Buzbee, author of The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop (Greywolf Press, $17). PW’s starred review found “he just doesn't love books, he's besotted. Buzbee tells the story of his lifelong obsession… Woven into these personal essays is a tangential discourse on the history of bookmaking and bookselling, from the ancient Romans and Chinese to the modern era.”

Authors on The Leonard Lopate Show:

Ben Ehrenreich (son of activist journalist Barbara), with his debut novel The Suitors (Harvest, $15). PW thought “With his linguistic acrobatics, caustic wit and mix-and-match structure, Ehrenreich shows the stirrings of an original talent.”

Kevin Merida, editor of Being a Black Man: At the Corner of Progress and Peril (PublicAffairs, $13.95). PW’s opinion: “Covering sociological, psychological and spiritual topics, the book provides a comprehensive view of the African-American man in contemporary America.”

This evening, The Colbert Report meets with Michael Wallis, author of The Lincoln Highway: Coast to Coast from Times Square to the Golden Gate (Norton, $39.95), which PW noted “will delight those looking to uncover their local roots as well as adventurers yearning for that American rite of passage—a cross-country road trip.”

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart interviews journalist Stephen Hayes, author of Cheney:The Untold Story of America's Most Powerful and Controversial Vice President (HarperCollins, $27.95; Tantor Media unabridged CD, $49.99). From PW’s review: “The book may not convince detractors, but it sketches a vivid portrait of Cheney as an intelligent, quiet leader committed throughout his career, even as a member of Congress, to strengthening the power and authority of the executive branch.”
