Cal Morgan will take over HarperCollins's It Books imprint as senior v-p and publisher. The position is being vacated by Carrie Kania who announced earlier this week that she is leaving HC to become an agent. Morgan helped launch It Books in 2009, serving as its editorial director. His books for It have included Neil Strauss’s Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead and Lauren Redniss’s Radioactive, as well as forthcoming books by Jerry Lee Lewis, Kelly Oxford, Stanley Crouch, Ransom Riggs, and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. Morgan will also assume Kania’s role overseeing the Harper Design team, led by v-p and publisher Marta Schooler.

Morgan came to HarperCollins in 1999, after starting his publishing career at St. Martin’s Press and served as editorial director at ReganBooks. In 2007 he became editorial director of Harper Perennial and Harper paperbacks, while also acquiring books for the Harper and William Morrow hardcover lists.

As announced earlier this week, Morgan will also continue in his role as the editorial director of the Harper Perennial original paperback program.
