Carolyn Forsman, former librarian and advocate for free speech, died January 19 at the age of 69. According to the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, she raised more than $150,000 for free expression groups, mainly through designing jewelry and creating pieces that celebrated the freedom to read, including her well-known "I Read Banned Books" bracelet. In 2011, Forsman began donating to ABFFE 10% of her sales to independent bookstores.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to FTRF, www.ftrf.org, and the Cancer Research Institute, www.cancerresearch.com.
