After five years with Granta magazine, John Freeman, the editor, has decided to leave the company following the publication of the summer issue, Travel. “Editing this magazine has been a joy and a privilege,” Freeman said. “I feel lucky to have worked with writers of such extraordinary talent, and colleagues so dedicated to publishing their work well.”

Freeman joined the magazine in the fall of 2008 as the American editor, and became acting editor in the spring of 2009. Freeman divided his time between New York and London and will be moving back to New York, where he will teach creative writing at Columbia University. The search for a new editor will begin shortly.
