Rick Horrow, who is heading up the fledgling sports imprint at Morgan James Publishers, has landed a television gig on the VERSUS cable network. Beginning August 25 Horrow, also known as the Sports Professor, will host the weekly The $Ports Take, a 30-minute show that will look at the business of sports. In the first episode, Dallas Cowboy owner Jerry Jones and Bryan Trubey, who was a key architect for the new Cowboys Stadium, will discuss the $1 billion project and lead a tour of the new home of the Cowboys. Guests in upcoming episodes are expected to include NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NBA commissioner David Stern.
Horrow heads Horrow Sports Ventures and has been a sports business analyst for Fox and CNN. He told PW he will use the new show to help promote titles released under the Sports Professor imprint. The first title, Return of the Gold: The Journey of Jerry Colangelo and the Redeem Team is set for release this fall; no date for a Colangelo appearance on the show has been set, however. The second book is Horrow’s own, Beyond the Box Score, and will be on sale in January. Other books set for release in 2010 include two to be done with the Pop Warner organization.
