Amazon Reveals New Kindle Tablets
Amazon has refreshed its line of Kindles, introducing four new devices, updating the original Kindle Fire, and dropping the price on the cheapest e-ink Kindle to $69. The new line of Kindle Fire tablets—the Kindle Fire HD—comes in two screen sizes, 7-in. ($199) and 8.9-in. ($299). Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also announced a $499 version of the largest Kindle Fire HD, which includes 4G LTE and 32GB of built-in storage.
Kobo Releases New Devices
Kobo has released an upgraded suite of e-reading devices with new functionality and pricing, including the Kobo Arc, a new 7-in. multimedia tablet device starting at $200 for the 8 GB version and $250 for the 16 GB unit. The Kobo Arc replaces the first Kobo tablet, the Kobo Vox. The Arc tablet also features a new interface called Tapestries that Kobo claims will “personalize” discovery and make it easier to find content with the device. The new lineup of devices also includes the Kobo Glo, an e-ink device with built-in lighting, the 5-in. e-ink Kobo Mini for $80, said to be the “smallest and lightest” e-reader on the market, and the Kobo Touch, an upgraded version of the original touch-screen e-ink device priced at $100.
