Unit sales of print books fell just over 9 percent in 2012 at outlets tracked by Nielsen BookScan, roughly the same percentage decline posted between 2010 and 2011. Between 2010 and 2012, print book unit sales dropped just under 16 percent. The steepest decline came in adult nonfiction where units fell 13 percent, while units in juvenile nonfiction rose 5.4 percent. Among formats, units of mass market paperbacks fell 20.5 percent, slightly slower than the decline in 2011 at outlets tracked by BookScan.
