RH Children’s To Publish Seuss Classics as E-books

On Sept. 24, the longtime publisher of Dr. Seuss’s print editions will debut 15 digital versions of the author’s books, including some of his most enduring titles, such as the The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go! The e-book rollout will continue through November, with 41 titles in total at $8.99 and $10.99 price points.

Amazon Starts Bundling Program

Amazon announced an October launch date for Kindle MatchBook, its print and e-book bundling program. Under the program, customers who buy—or have bought in the past—print books can buy e-book editions of the same titles for $2.99 or less, with select digital versions available for free. To begin with, Amazon expects to have over 10,000 titles in the program, including some new releases and some books that were available when the site launched in 1995.

National Book Foundation to Honor Doctorow and Angelou

The National Book Foundation announced it will award its 2013 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters to E.L. Doctorow and its 2013 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community to Maya Angelou at the 64th National Book Awards ceremony on Nov. 20 in New York City.

Smashwords Debuts India E-book Distribution; Hits 250,000 Titles

Smashwords, a self-publishing platform and indie e-book distributor, has created a series of new features to help authors and publishers market and distribute e-books. Over the last two months, Smashwords has launched e-book preordering and an author “self-interview” service, and signed a distribution deal with Flipkart, India’s biggest online e-book retailer. Smashwords founder Mark Coker also announced that the distributor released its 250,000th book on Sept. 4.

Morrow to Pub New, Authorized Agatha Christie Novel

HarperCollins’s William Morrow imprint has signed a new Agatha Christie novel, authorized by the late author’s estate, from bestselling writer Sophie Hannah. The new book, which is currently untitled, is set for a September 2014 release.

Greenleaf Founder Becomes Chairman; Names Hall CEO

Greenleaf Book Group announced that, effective Jan. 1, 2014, founder and CEO Clint Greenleaf will become the company’s chairman, and current chief operating officer Tanya Hall will assume his former post.
