Suchomel Returning to Legato Publishers Group

Almost two weeks after the planned acquisition of Perseus Books Group by Hachette and Ingram fell apart, Perseus CEO

David Steinberger sent a letter to Legato Publishers Group’s 24 client-publishers informing them that Mark Suchomel will officially resume his position at the helm of the boutique distribution company.

Horgan Lands at Scribner

Rick Horgan, formerly v-p, executive editor at Crown, will join Scribner as v-p, executive editor. Horgan departed Crown in May, where he had been for nine years, during a reorganization of the imprint and its leadership structure.

New Owner For Giovanni’s Room

As PW reported last month, Giovanni’s Room in Philadelphia will reopen under a new owner. Philadelphia AIDS Thrift, a nonprofit that donates proceeds to local AIDS groups, will operate the store under a new name, which honors the country’s oldest LGBT bookstore: Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room.

Ellora’s Cave Cuts Staff, Blames Big Amazon Sales Drop

Ellora’s Cave, the digital-first erotic romance publisher, has laid off both freelance and full-time staff, according to a note sent to its authors by the company CEO, who blamed the need for cuts on a “sharp decline of e-book sales via Amazon in recent months.”
