New Amazon Terms War?

According to Business Insider, the book industry could be heading toward another acrimonious sales-terms battle, this time between Amazon and HarperCollins. Business Insider (Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is an investor) claims that Harper’s print and e-book agreements with Amazon are close to expiring and that Harper is balking at sales terms recently agreed to by Hachette, Macmillan, and S&S. HC declined to comment on the story.

Big Apple Bookstore Day

Over two dozen bookstores throughout New York City, and 400 booksellers around the country, will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on May 2. Look for events at the Strand in Manhattan, and at Brooklyn’s GreenLight Bookstore, as well as an after-party at the PowerHouse Arena, also in Brooklyn.

BAM Reports 2014 Results Rise

Books-A-Million reported that revenue for the year ending Jan. 31, 2015, rose 0.8% over the previous year, to $474 million. BAM reported a profit of $3.5 million for the year, compared to a loss of $7.3 million in 2013.

PW Hails Books & Books, Jennifer Sheridan

Books & Books, the 33-year-old bookstore founded by Mitchell Kaplan in Miami, has been named PW Bookstore of the Year. HarperColllins’s Jennifer Sheridan has been named PW Sales Rep of the Year.
