B&H Publishing Group author Ginny L. Yttrup has won the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year gold award in the Adult Fiction/Religious category for her debut novel, Words. LINK The awards program drew 1,200 entries from more than 700 publishers; judging is by a panel of booksellers and librarians. Yttrup also won the Christy Award for First Novel, presented last week at the International Christian Retail Show.Yttrup recently released her second novel, Lost and Found (Feb.); her third book with B&H Publishing Group, Invisible, releases in April 2013.

David C. Cook’s Crazy Love by Francis Chan (2011), which has been a fixture on both Christian and general-market bestsellers lists, has sold more than 2.2 million copies. Chan, the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, Calif., is now traveling the world and speaking. A new book, Multiply, is due in November.

Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible: Ancient Artifacts, Timeless Treasures, an exhibition of rare Dead Sea Scroll fragments and other antiquities, opened July 2 at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex. The exhibition is one of the largest of Dead Sea Scroll artifacts ever presented in the United States. The Dead Sea Scrolls are 1,000 years older than the oldest complete Hebrew Bible known before their discovery in 1947. Twelve of the fragments in the exhibition have been held in private collections until now and have never before been seen by the public. Visitors can view 21 rare scroll fragments in all. InterVarsity Press has completed the eight-volume IVP Bible Dictionary series, twenty years after the release of the first volume. With the June release of Dictionary of the Old Testament: Prophets, coverage of the biblical canon is now complete. Dubbed the "Black Dictionaries" for their cover design, more than 300,000 volumes have sold. Individual volumes have received many accolades, including the Christianity Today Critics' Choice Award, the Association of Logos Bookstores Book Award, and multiple ECPA Gold Medallion; they also have been named Books of the Year by the Academy of Parish Clergy and Christianity Today. Eerdmans Publishing has won ten Catholic Press Association Book Awards, which were announced on June 22 at the Association’s annual Catholic Media Conference in Indianapolis. Migrations of the Holy by William T. Cavanaugh earned first place in the Social Concerns category; Prophetic Jesus, Prophetic Church by Luke Timothy Johnson earned first place in the Scripture category; and Images of God for Young Children, written by Marie-Hélène Delval and illustrated by Barbara Nascimbeni, earned first place in Children’s Books. Lion Hudson in the U.K. has named Andrew Hodder-Williams publishing director, effective August 6. Hodder-Williams began his career at Lion Publishing, then worked at Hodder & Stoughton and Hodder Headline. Since 1997, he has consulted in publishing and telecommunications with KPMG Consulting and Atos, and as an independent consultant. He led the 1999 KPMG Tackling Returns project, “which revolutionised the book supply chain,” according to a statement from Lion Hudson. Nick Jones assumed the role of acting managing director/international sales director on July 1.

Whitaker House author Myles Munroe was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor from the Republic of Peru on July 2 in Lima “for his contribution to leadership development in Peru and other emerging Latin American nations.” Peruvian Congressional President Manuel Arturo Merino De Lama presented the award. Munroe has held leadership training conferences for businesses, governments, and religion professionals and counseled political leaders and heads of state in emerging nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. The Bahamian author-speaker has published a number of books with Whitaker House, including most recently The Purpose and Power of Authority (2011).
