With the widespread dissemination of Covid-19 vaccines, publishing conference and book fair planners went ahead with scheduling in-person events for much of 2022. Now, however, concerns regarding the omicron variant of Covid-19 have already resulted in some shifting of dates and a few meetings moving from in-person to online. Indeed, last week the American Booksellers Association announced it was canceling plans to hold its 2022 Winter Institute in Cincinatti February 13–16 and said it would announce new plans for the event soon.

The organizers of two other big events—the Jaipur Literature Festival in Jaipur, India, and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Bologna, Italy—are still hoping to proceed in person. In the case of Bologna, it would be the first in-person fair since 2019. “After Frankfurt in October, I was feeling very confident that we would be able to hold our event live and in person,” said Elena Pasoli, exhibition manager of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. “But with this new variant, we don’t know what will happen. Two years in a row without meeting has already been very challenging. While we have had two successful virtual events, we all know it is not the same as meeting face-to-face.”

The following is a list of domestic and international events that, as of late December 2021, are scheduled to run in the first three months of 2022.
