Across the country there have been scattered reports that some copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with its record-breaking print run of 12 million copies, have been printed with missing pages, and a few are now popping up on eBay, with sellers pushing the titles as collectable items. In the early going, however, the defective books are not bringing much of a premium. One copy auctioned recently on eBay fetched $41 for the $34.99 hardcover.

Some booksellers who learned of the misprints stopped selling those copies. Pat Fowler of Village Square Books in Bellows Falls, Vt., said 31 of the 220 copies she ordered were defective. “I just wouldn’t feel right with someone putting them up on eBay,” she explained.
