MoCCA Art Fest Moved to Spring
The Museum of Cartoon and Comic Book Art’s annual art festival has moved its date from the heat of summer to the weekend of April 10-11 for the upcoming year. General speculation is that this is may be due to the crowded summer convention season, persistent complaints about the heat in the non-air conditioned historic venue at the Lexington Avenure Armory, or some combination of the two.
New Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Fest
A new comic con is coming to the New York area: The Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Fest. Centered around independent talent, the event will be run by local comic store Desert Island and New York-based indie comics publisher Picture Box and take place on December 5th at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 184 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Dash Shaw and Gary Panter are listed among the featured guests. Admission is free to the general public.
Boom Studios Signs With Haven
While it will continue to distribute new comics through Diamond Book Distributors, comic publisher Boom! Studios has made a deal with indie-comics focused distributor Haven Distributors to bring Boom’s reprints and backlist to comic book stores throughout the country. Previously this year, Boom! also made distribution deals with Simon and Schuster, HarperCollinsCanada for the North American bookstore market and newsstand distributor Kable Distribution Services.
Viz Accepting Submissions
Manga publisher Viz has opened their original manga and graphic novel program to submissions from the general public. More details are available on their website.
Marvel.Com Exclusive Animation Extras
Marvel.com, the Marvel Comics website, will now be posting exclusive sneak peeks at the cartoon development process that creates Marvel animation. New concept art, sketches, storyboards and more for such Marvel series as Iron Man Armored Adventures, Wolverine and the X-Men and The Super Hero Squad will be added to the site on a daily basis.
Archie Comics Creator at Big Apple Comic Con
Dan Parent, an artist and writer on Betty and Veronica, will be appearing at the upcoming Big Apple Comic Con in New York City the weekend of October 17. Parent will be appearing on panels as well as having a table in artist’s alley. Big Apple Comic Con is located at Pier 94 at 55th street and 12th avenue, New York, NY.
