Description | Prestel, a publisher of fine illustrated books in art, architecture, photography, design, and fashion, is looking for an acquisitions editor. Prospective candidates should have a minimum of five years experience acquiring and editing illustrated books. The editor will acquire, develop and edit books in Prestel’s areas of expertise. The editor will work closely with design, production, and sales and marketing to bring new books to the trade. This position is based in Prestel’s New York office. Responsibilities include: *Acquiring, developing and editing Prestel books in art, architecture, photography and/or fashion. *Acting as a liaison between authors, agents, galleries, freelancers, foundations and artists. *Seeing books through the entire editorial, design and production process. *Interacting with in-house editorial, production, sales, marketing, publicity and financial departments in New York, Munich, and London. *Attending editorial meetings with Prestel’s Munich and London offices. *Negotiating contracts with authors, agents, foundations, artists and galleries. *Developing P&L’s for books and maintaining book budgets. *Developing ebook strategies for acquired titles. *Manuscript development and editing, copywriting or editing for jacket and catalog copy and in-house fact sheets. *Maintaining publishing schedules for books. *Coordinating information flow with Prestel’s Munich office. *Managing an editor. Requirements: *5 or more years experience acquiring, developing and editing illustrated books. *Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. *Some travel to Munich office, Frankfurt Book Fair and some professional books fairs, such as College Art Association.
