Description | VIZ Media is looking for a Senior Digital Publishing Product Manager to join our Digital Publishing team! 5-7 years experience in driving product development and e-commerce results, with at least one former role specifically related to tablet or e-reader product development Online retailing and/or shopping site experience PREFERRED Experience working with Apple, Google, Amazon, or Microsoft is a PLUS Familiarity with e-commerce systems, SQL databases, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and other web programming languages a PLUS SUMMARY The Senior Digital Publishing Product Manager manages the day-to-day interface development and execution of VIZ Media’s growing suite of digital publishing vehicles and online e-commerce platform. This position collaborates with key business stakeholders, gathers requirements for digital and online initiatives, manages project timelines, and contributes to the overall strategy for improving VIZ Media’s digital & online marketing efforts. This position works closely with the Digital Publishing team leadership in managing and optimizing digital vehicle development and usage, leading feature request & QA efforts in driving results within digital vehicles, contributing to content efforts as needed, and monitoring and reporting on various aspects of digital product performance and user engagement on a regular basis. PRINCIPAL DUTIES Works closely with the VP of Digital Publishing in establishing the VIZ Media digital roadmap and leads the Digital Publishing team to reach key milestones on the roadmap Works closely with the leadership in the Digital Publishing Team in driving digital sales across all platforms and business units Manages day-to-day tasks on projects relating to new product development, user interface improvement, and e-commerce platform development Responsible for ensuring on-time delivery of design comps and defining specifications for user interface improvement, consumer experience enhancements, marketing and merchandising tool development, etc. Assists in the development of the VIZ Media value proposition via digital vehicles & VIZ’s online presence, and manages all aspects of digital design adhering to parent company brand standards Works with cross-functional teams in Editorial in defining new products, including enhanced books, new e-book formats, and applications for proprietary systems Co-owns the larger VIZ Media online & digital strategic vision with the Digital Publishing team leads Owns the end-to-end Digital Publishing customer experience and concomitant development & improvement of the digital products that form that experience, including: product definition, back-end platform integration, localization (when applicable), internationalization of products (when applicable), shopping cart and payment functionality, content deployments, and customer support Leads cross-functional teams, working closely with engineering/programming and identifying & assigning QA tasks Leads new product development (concept, UI/UX, wireframes, design, requirements definition, development) Drives product roadmaps and new product/range launches in conjunction with identified business needs and overall company direction In addition to these responsibilities, performs other activities as assigned MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Experience working with Apple, Google, Amazon, or Microsoft is a PLUS. Familiarity with e-commerce systems, SQL databases, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and other web programming languages a PLUS Experience interpreting business requirements into actionable design projects and e-commerce solutions Experience driving digital product development, especially iPhone/iPad applications, e-commerce platforms, and e-reader devices. Fundamental understanding of usability and experience in creating conversion-oriented products. Strong analytic and organization skills, especially in assessing product performance, identifying consumer behavior, and calculating ROI Understanding of technologies and client-server architecture to build dynamic/database-driven e-commerce platforms. Proficiency with computer usage, including email, Internet, and standard software Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English Ability to pay strong attention to detail Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork Ability to work legally in the United States Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION 5-7 years experience in driving product development and e-commerce results, with at least one former role specifically related to tablet or e-reader product development. Online retailing and/or shopping site experience PREFERRED. Experience with concept development, UI/UX, wireframes, product design, requirements definition, and development roadmap execution. Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position. MBA PREFERRED, but not required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not supervise others, but may give guidance to the work of interns and freelancers. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as copiers and faxes. Must be able to travel occasionally as needed.
