VIZ Media is looking for a Publishing Sales & Marketing Manager to join our Publishing Marketing team!

Experience in Publishing, Entertainment, Toys and/or Gaming a MUST
Possesses experience and proven contacts in book, comics and/or manga publishing industries

SUMMARY
The Publishing Sales & Marketing Manager is responsible for the overall sales performance of the company’s book publishing business and manages relationships with retail accounts, distributors, and key marketing partners.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Oversees book sales and distribution relationships and, in conjunction with Editorial Directors, responsible for performance and profitability of book publishing business.
Supervises and works closely with internal Sales & Marketing team members whose primary responsibilities include management of accounts, account negotiations, retail marketing planning and execution, setting account targets, market reporting, and defining potential growth initiatives.
Sets sales and marketing strategy, final product vital data (pricing, format), and performance targets for sales force.
Sets overall publishing budgets and seasonal sales projections and oversees budget targets at key accounts.
Analyzes POS data, presents trends, and prepares regular reporting on current sales performance.
Presents trends and sets strategies for publishing growth initiatives and profitability, in both domestic and foreign markets.
Works closely with internal Sales & Marketing and Editorial teams to ensure that information and materials for seasonal sales cycles are presented in full and on time to distributors and retail partners.
Works with distributor and key accounts to manage COOP spending, special offers, and retail promotions.
Researches and pursues new retail opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional sales channels.
Works with Finance and Editorial Production to determine initial print runs, reprint quantities, and inventory controls.
Works with Licensing and Editorial departments to provide seasonal Sales & Marketing plans and regular results reporting to external licensors.
Represents the company to business partners and the public.

In addition to these responsibilities, performs other activities as assigned

MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Possesses experience and proven contacts in book, comics and/or manga publishing industries
Ability to identify business trends and strategize accordingly
Proficiency with standard productivity programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English
Ability to pay strong attention to detail
Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff
Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork
MUST be able to travel as needed
Knowledge of manga, comics, and/or anime PREFERRED
Ability to speak and read Japanese a PLUS
Ability to work legally in the United States
Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area

MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
5-7 years of experience in related industry
Experience in Publishing, Entertainment, Toys and/or Gaming a MUST
Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not supervise others, but may give guidance to the work of interns and freelancers.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as copiers and faxes. Must be able to travel occasionally as needed.

OTHER INFORMATION
Employees must adhere to all applicable VIZ Media policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Willingness and ability to work non-standard business hours, such as nights and weekends, on an as-needed basis is required. Employees must be able to cope effectively with deadlines and multiple demands.
