|Island Press is seeking an energetic and imaginative media professional to join our busy publicity department. We desire a self-starter with a strong initiative and a passion for the environment to generate awareness and interest in Island Press content, authors, and campaigns. This position will work closely with the marketing team, authors, editors, and the media through publicity materials, events, conferences, on-line, and over the phone for outreach of new titles and cross-promotion of backlist titles in trade, professional, and academic areas.|
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: plan and execute book publicity campaigns; develop strategies for each title which may include print and broadcast placements, book tours, lectures, programmatic events and parties, online activities, and other opportunities; report to marketing team, management, and authors on promotional activities and opportunities; supervise publicity staff.
MEDIA: develop and maintain review lists; create press releases, pitch letters and emails; establish and maintain relationships with key book review and media contacts; perform outreach and follow up with media contacts.
PUBLICITY: coordinate author self-promotion through online marketing, social media, and networking; suggest cross-promotions and new outreach opportunities for sales, development, and organizational goals.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate with have a bachelor's degree and related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience working with media with a preference given to those with publishing and/or environmental experience. Candidates must demonstrate superior writing skills and strong organizational skills. Familiarity with media outlets and journalists covering environmental issues is a plus.
To perform this job successfully, an individual will have proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite; Adobe InDesign; Drupal, WordPress, or similar web-based programs; and web-based Meltwater or similar databases.
This position requires the ability to travel.
