An organized and experienced individual is sought for this editorial position, which provides direct involvement with authors, manuscript acquisitions, production processes for textbook/media publishing, as well as exposure to overall publishing business practices, methodologies, and procedures. The Associate Editor position works closely with Managing Editor, Acquisition Editors or Publisher to manage the editorial process from manuscript acquisition through development stages.

Summary of Duties:

* Evaluate project needs; analyze competing texts; assess originality of content.
* Under minimal supervision, manage the editorial process from manuscript acquisition through development stages, including performing content development and preparing manuscript for production.
* Develop ancillary products including instructor CD, student workbook, companion website content, and e-products.
* Send manuscripts to review, including contacting reviewers, scheduling reviewer deadlines, and maintaining a spreadsheet of reviewers
* Provide direction and guidance to authors on the publishing process, author responsibilities, to ensure quality of project. Provide authors with customized guidelines for manuscript preparation.
* Hold project launch meetings and provide design guidance to Production.
* Check page proofs. Write copy as needed.

Requirements:

* 4-year college degree or equivalent. Course work in areas related to publishing helpful.
* Previous experience: 2 to 4 years experience in the publishing process particularly as applies to editorial processes of educational/textbook publishing, as Editorial Assistant, Marketing Assistant or other related position.
* Attributes to include enthusiasm, task and detail orientation, management of multiple activities/projects, highly organized, ability to influence others.
* Complete computer literacy, familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc) and email.
* Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
