We are searching for a Publisher – Allied Health and Health Professions lists in our Jones & Bartlett Learning business unit (www.jblearning.com). Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the Publisher – Allied Health & health Professions will have responsibility for setting and ensuring implementation of the strategic direction, achieving long-term revenue growth and oversight over multiple lists.

Responsibilities:

Manage and grow the Allied Health and Health Professions lists including digital list acquisition and strategy, managing Acquisitions Editors, and overall growth of the list. This Publisher position requires team leadership experience, P & L management, a strong growth record in publishing, and strategic technology capability.

Manages all functions & operations of the editorial group in such a manner that high quality, profitable & market-appropriate educational solutions are delivered to the market place. Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to forecast, budget, & report on overall list.

Responsible for the management of the Editorial process & revenue growth, conducts long range, & short-range planning. Reviews editorial publication proposals on all projects, maintains pre-contract involvement on all projects, maintains active planning role on all major projects. Communicates company’s goals & desired publishing profile & helps editors translate these into acquisition strategies & programs. Establishes & monitors guidelines for use of technology, development & other staff resources.

Takes a leadership role in regular planning & information-sharing meetings held within the department. Maintains close liaison with marketing & sales via regular meetings to develop general & specific strategies for the department’s publishing.

Proposes appropriate budgets & monitors the effectiveness of their use; keeps departmental spending in line with the budgets. Accurately projects & monitors plant spending & royalty advances. Reviews recommended reprint levels & control obsolescence. Contribute to sales forecasting by applying knowledge of sales profiles of the various product lines to project financials. Evaluate & recommend royalty rates & advances based on knowledge of the author market.

Supervisory responsibilities (direct and indirect)

Carries out supervisory responsibilities of various editors in the team by interviewing, hiring, & training employees; planning, assigning, & directing work; appraising performance; rewarding & disciplining ee’s; addressing complaints & resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Related work experience

- 8-10 years of editorial experience with demonstrated managerial ability.
- Preferred experience in Allied Health and Health Professions list management.
-Ability to travel as needed.

Formal education or equivalent

BA/BS from a four year college or university.
