Description | Editor in Chief, School Library Journal School Library Journal, the leading publication serving librarians who work with children and teens and the foremost review source for children’s publishing, seeks an Editor in Chief to provide vision and leadership for the brand. School Library Journal publishes a monthly magazine, three enewsletters, and a website while also hosting a robust calendar of online and in-person events. Responsibilities include: Direct an editorial team of 12+ located in the brand’s New York office and remotely, fostering creativity and collaboration. Develop editorial vision and direction, in conjunction with Publisher, et al. for both print and digital products Develop and implement an integrated editorial calendar that maximizes content across multiple platforms Insure that brand is publishing the best possible content: timely, meeting reader’s needs, and responsive to the market Implement a digital strategy that promotes tiered levels of readership Integrate metrics into the analysis of the brand’s performance Seek opportunities through new publications, research, events, and partnerships to expand the brand’s reach and revenue Manage the brand’s budget Write brand’s editorials and occasional features, be hands on with editorial development, columnists, bloggers, et al., and model excellent editorial skills for staff In addition, Editor in Chief must Participate in strategic planning to insure the brand’s long term growth and success Remain in close contact with the major forces in libraries and education: publishers, vendors, nonprofits, professional associations to keep abreast of competitive environment and create revenue-generating opportunities Work with other Media Source brands—Library Journal, The Horn Book, and Junior Library Guild—to maximize opportunities across the group Represent the brand at public events Work closely with ad sales department, marketing, production Requirements: 4 year degree - MLS desired Minimum 8 years writing/editing experience Minimum 5 years experience managing an editorial team Minimum 5 years of publishing experience at a senior level Must have experience with the Library market Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Benefits include: Medical/Dental/Vision/Flexible Spending Basic life insurance Supplemental Life Insurance Short/Long Term Disability Paid Time Off Paid Holidays 401(k) with Company match
