The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting the titles across Amazon Publishing’s three genre imprints (Thomas & Mercer, Montlake Romance, and 47North). The Lead Publicist will spearhead a team of publicists to identify market potential of titles at the acquisition phase and drive sales and awareness of each book on our list. In addition to traditional title publicity, the successful candidate must have an eye for innovation: the Lead Publicist will ideate and drive strategies for books to thrive in the digital age, discovering new ways to connect with readers, including engagement through social media and the blogging community.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated expertise in genre publishing, as well as an entrepreneurial and goal-oriented approach. She/he should be motivated by a start-up culture and the challenge of building a new and exciting business while leveraging the possibilities of a new delivery platform. This role will report to Amazon Publishing’s Head of Publicity, who is based in New York City. This role is based in Seattle and will require periodic travel.

Core Job responsibilities:

Plan and execute publicity campaigns for a diverse list of books in order to drive sales
Write press materials; pitch and secure top national and local media, including print, broadcast and online outlets
Create and manage media lists and build strong relationships with key media
Identify media potential of authors/titles at title acquisition phase
Manage an internal team of publicists and external publicity firms as necessary
Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and author relations teams in order to drive successful title launches

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors degree
7+ years of book publicity and/or genre marketing experience
Experience in science fiction/ fantasy, mystery/ thriller, or romance publishing
Experience creating and executing highly successful title-based media campaigns

Preferred Qualifications:

Superior communication and presentation skills
High judgment, particularly in narrow time frames
Commitment and dedication to achieving team goals
Pay painstaking attention to important details
Ability to communicate effectively with bi-coastal teams and efficiently manage and problem solve any challenges that arise
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
