Description | Workman Publishing – the publisher of What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Brain Quest, The Silver Palate Cookbook, Unlikely Friendships, and 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, among others – seeks an experienced Managing Editor to oversee the editorial production of approximately 45 books and 90 calendars per year, all of which are made with great care, attention to detail, and devotion to quality. The Managing Editor directly supervises a department of four production editors, as well as freelancers; leads weekly production meetings; tests and hires freelancers; creates and maintains book and calendar schedules; maintains and updates the bibliographical database; and further acts as liaison between the editorial, design, manufacturing, sales, and publicity departments. In addition, the Managing Editor personally acts as project editor on key titles, and must have experience copyediting and proofreading art-and-design-intensive books. This position is an excellent opportunity for a good-humored, flexible, and diplomatic professional who has the skills and ability to handle a varied list with no formulaic books – a lively list of one-of-a-kind titles that are the product of close collaboration between author, editor, copyeditor, designer, and production. |
