Description | Albert Whitman & Company is seeking an Editorial Director with experience in all aspects of children’s book publishing. The Editorial Director will have responsibility for content acquisition, book and list development, as well as supervision of a team of editors. This role requires excellent author/agent relationships, solid children’s book development experience, negotiation skills, management experience, P&L understanding and a strong background in developing editorial budgets. The Editorial Director must also have the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams: Design, Production, Marketing, Sales and Business Management. Responsibilities: •Lead the planning, budgeting, scheduling and coordination of new books from acquisition through production •Lead content acquisition efforts and manage author/agent, editor and freelance relationships •Partner with the Sales and Marketing teams to ensure strategic planning and scheduling of new books Requirements: •Minimum of 12 years experience in children’s book publishing with a minimum of 4 years managing an editorial team •Working knowledge of all aspects of acquisitions and list management •Previous hands on experience in picture book editing and copy editing •A demonstrated ability to recognize and acquire children’s book talent •Strong people management skills with demonstrated success in hiring, developing, coaching and retaining staff About us: Albert Whitman & Company has been publishing children’s books since 1919.
