Description | The MIT Press is seeking a DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY to guide the development of digital publishing and technology infrastructure, both in the Books and Journals divisions and at the MIT Bookstore. Will be responsible for digital product initiation and development, including standalone products such as e-books, enhanced e-books, and apps as well as content aggregations and disaggregations and web resources; reviewing and recommending technology partners, e-vendors, e-retailers, and aggregators and negotiating contracts with them; chairing the Press Technology Policy Council, the vehicle used for making policy recommendations to the director and communicating with staff regarding technology strategy; and for technology selection, including systems for general Press use, digital workflow and file management and distribution systems, and web presences. Management of these areas will involve responsibility for $350,000 in operating budgets and annual capital budgets for IT and product budgets for digital projects. Will also be responsible for communicating with staff about internal and relevant external developments in both of these areas, participating in strategic planning within the senior management group, and advising the associate director and director on developments in digital publishing technologies. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor’s degree; a minimum of five years’ experience in digital publishing; a track record demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility managing budgets and people; solid technical familiarity with standard office hardware, software, and servers; and demonstrated experience with technology vendor and partnership contracts and their negotiation. Must be conversant with XML publishing standards and workflows, content management systems, digital asset management and distribution software, Drupal and other web tools, apps, the Adobe Content Server, e-pub, and e-commerce tools.
