The Wisconsin Historical Society Press is seeking an individual with experience in marketing and publicity for the regional book market. Well-qualified applicants for this position would have experience with publicity, copy writing, advertising, and organizing events.

Since 1855, the Wisconsin Historical Society Press has connected people to the past with over 100 titles in print. The Society Press publishes 15 books on Wisconsin history and culture each year, including books for general readers and for young readers. The Press also publishes the Wisconsin Magazine of History. The Wisconsin Historical Society Press is one of the top regional publishers in the country and its books have received numerous awards. A strong marketing program is critical to the success of the operation, which is largely supported by earned revenue and private grants.

The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the marketing and publicity for all books published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press, a leader in regional publishing. This position is responsible for developing marketing plans, all publicity materials including press releases, catalogs, and brochures, and for working with authors to arrange book events, media appearances, and special promotions. This position represents the Society Press and the Wisconsin Historical Society to newspapers, periodicals, radio, television, and other media representatives.

3. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. An individual will be expected to present proper evidence establishing employability.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the book publishing industry.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills with WHS staff, the public, and the professional community.
• Strong editorial skills and ability to create clear, accurate text.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects at once.
• A strong visual sense and the ability to identify and select images for promotional materials.
• Ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively on a team.
• Ability to direct the work of interns, volunteers, and employees.
• Ability to use computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Access, Excel).
• Familiarity with producing materials for publication online.
• Ability to travel independently within Wisconsin, nationally, and internationally as assigned by the WHS Press Director.
• Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds and have the physical dexterity and flexibility necessary to work in an office environment.
• Able to legally operate a motor vehicle from the Wisconsin Department of Administration State Fleet in the State of Wisconsin.
