Position Summary

Harvard Business Review, the world’s most influential source of management ideas and an innovative multiplatform media brand, is looking for a Communications Manager to join our team. The Communications Manager works with our highly respected roster of HBR magazine and blog contributors and our executive editorial and publishing team to build awareness of the breakthrough ideas we publish through media outreach and event support. Our communications program takes an integrated approach to brand awareness through visibility in print, web, and broadcast outlets, social media engagement, branded events, and industry promotion. To be successful in this position, you must be engaged in the ideas that move business, eager to bring thought leaders and influencers together, and skilled at framing issues in a way that encourages exploration and debate. Key Responsibilities

• Daily promotion of HBR magazine and blog content to national media, beat reporters, producers, bloggers in business and media trades; conference organizers.
• Digital, social media promotion of trending blog posts
• Branded awards/event development and program execution
• Preparation of major awards program entries
• Monthly influencer mailings and media alerts
• Dedicated publicity for special issues of the magazine, platform launches, innovations in brand partnerships
• Digital/live event programming for HBR’s social media community
• Participation in HBR’s Social Media Group platform support
• Managing communications calendar, including regular reporting on HBR ad sales and circ/audience development data to media industry outlets
• Placing HBR speakers at industry events, conferences
• Partner with HBR Press publicity team to maximize journalist relationships and assist with monthly HBR Group media newsletter
• Collaboration with HBR Ad Sales Marketing on events, joint promotions


• Smart, curious, media-savvy, current events junkie
• Experienced with pitching business concepts to national media
• Deep knowledge of and facility with managing social media programming
• Understands the connection between current events, business frameworks, and expert commentary and can position pitches accordingly
• Excellent writer and communicator
• Well-organized, energetic, enjoys working in a team environment
• Unflappable
• BA or equivalent
