Description
The Great Books Foundation, an independent non-profit educational organization, is seeking to fill a permanent, full-time position in Great Books Discussions, its adult program department. Responsibilities of the Market Development Specialist include:
- Extending the use of Great Books Discussions publications and services into new areas.
- Maintaining and augmenting existing relationships with users of Great Books Discussions publications and services.
- Researching and identifying organizations for collaborative relationships with Great Books Discussions.
- Working with the Sales and Marketing and Training Departments, and other Foundation staff, to devise innovative and effective ways to promote the work of Great Books Discussions.
- Assisting the Director of Great Books Discussions with special marketing and outreach projects as needed.

Applicants must submit a current resume together with a statement of interest in this position. The statement should be no less than 500 words and include responses to the following questions:
1) Which written work has strongly influenced your thoughts and actions?
2) What value do you think Great Books reading and discussion programs have now for individuals, organizations, and communities?
3) Why are you interested in working at the Great Books Foundation?
In addition, applicants must submit a writing sample of their own choosing.
Applications without the requested statement of interest and writing sample will not be considered.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of B.A. or B.S. college degree with coursework in marketing and communications as well as literature, philosophy, and natural science.
- At least three years experience with sales and marketing activities, including use of social media.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness in researching, cultivating, and building sustainable customer and/or membership bases and relationships.
- Well-developed ability to write and edit copy
- High proficiency with MS Office suite and ability to edit web-based material.
- Regular participation in book discussion groups desirable.
