The acquisitions editor works across every work group within the association and provides the following functions:

• Participates in long-range strategic planning for the acquisition of 12 to 15 manuscripts for K–12 educators each year, monitors education and publishing trends, pursues potential authors and topics; and solicits proposals.

• Negotiates for and acquires book manuscripts to meet revenue targets.

• Establishes and cultivates supportive relationships with authors and potential authors, manages author relationships.

• Ensures that print and digital projects acquired and developed are appropriate for ASCD’s audience, written to high standards of quality, and completed within a specified timeframe and budget.

A successful incumbent will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, English, or education and 4-6 years of experience in publishing, preferably with at least 2 years’ experience acquiring content for professional books. Experience with a publisher specializing in K-12 education and print and e-publishing is highly desired. K-12 education experience in professional development or as a teacher, or administrator, is a plus, but not required. To apply for this opportunity, click here.
