Description | ASCD is seeking a book Acquisitions Editor specializing in K–12 education to acquire authors, solicit manuscripts, review proposals, negotiate contracts, ensure timely manuscript delivery, develop and coordinate the production of 15 titles per year. The acquisitions editor works across every work group within the association and provides the following functions: • Participates in long-range strategic planning for the acquisition of 12 to 15 manuscripts for K–12 educators each year, monitors education and publishing trends, pursues potential authors and topics; and solicits proposals. • Negotiates for and acquires book manuscripts to meet revenue targets. • Establishes and cultivates supportive relationships with authors and potential authors, manages author relationships. • Ensures that print and digital projects acquired and developed are appropriate for ASCD’s audience, written to high standards of quality, and completed within a specified timeframe and budget. A successful incumbent will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, English, or education and 4-6 years of experience in publishing, preferably with at least 2 years’ experience acquiring content for professional books. Experience with a publisher specializing in K-12 education and print and e-publishing is highly desired. K-12 education experience in professional development or as a teacher, or administrator, is a plus, but not required. To apply for this opportunity, click here.
