Sincerely, Maria Stanton The Director, Digital Content Operations is responsible for the operational excellence of Alexander Street Press’ Production Department. The scope includes content acquisition, digital content production, metadata enrichment (e.g., indexing and segmentation), staff, and data management tools and systems. The Director will ensure that the Production department is recognized for setting the standard in terms of quality, turn-around-time, and resource / financial stewardship. This will be demonstrated by customer and market recognition of ASP as an industry leader in product excellence and quality. The Director must have a proven track record of effective leadership, drawing on a range of skills including the ability to set goals and priorities, take decisive action to establish policy or to define recommended course of action, to effectively manage risk. The successful Director will be a trailblazer capable of establishing effective workflows and identifying new solutions for getting the job done. Key Responsibilities •Manage a department responsible for sourcing, data conversion, and indexing and vendor management. •Identify and define the required skills / competencies needed to support the organization’s goals and long-term plan (skills, skill levels, and staffing size). •Ensure the roles within Production are filled by individuals with requisite experience. •Ensure we retain and hire staff exhibiting ASP’s values and a strong customer and team-orientation, capable of working in a fast-paced environment, committed to quality, and able to multi-task. •Ensure the department’s performance management plan is executed fairly. The consistent use of rewards, training, and constructive feedback support the overall strategy of strengthening the team’s contribution to ASP’s success. • Possess a continuous-quality orientation with the follow-through to complete prioritized and scheduled reviews of department processes, protocols, tools, tasks, and standards to evaluate efficacy and customer outcomes. •Demonstrably efficient production processes, knowledge of and ability to leverage new tools/technologies and 3rd party resources to manage costs without compromising quality. •Vendor management that ensures high-quality with low-overhead for ASP. Workflows within Production that provide ASP with a clear competitive advantage in the marketplace. •Support efficient, agile decision making via an understanding of ASP’s decision allocations at all levels (who needs to be involved in what way in which decisions. Support the identification and the use of critical metrics to enable the department to effectively. •Implement structures to support the distribution of information to staff and stakeholders. This includes evaluating existing communication methods and assumptions (e.g., use of meetings, skype, face-to-face). •Develop production plans that reflect the business strategy and support the quarterly planning. Critically evaluate department’s reporting practices, ensuring Production reports support transparency and decision making across the organization. This includes intent, audience, format, speed of delivery, and method of communication. Key Requirements This position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in related field with 5 years of experience in a senior leadership capacity content management operations supporting a library or publishing company.
