Specific tasks and skills for this position include:
• Ensuring accuracy in printed materials, including, but not limited to, books, reports, marketing materials, and website materials
• Proofreading materials (using standard proofreading marks) multiple times to ensure accuracy in all references, dates, names, quotes, titles, and any other information included in the publication
• Compiling and editing reference lists according to APA style; finding and correcting errors in citations and quotes
• Communicating with associates and authors regarding their work; incorporating feedback and corrections into manuscripts
• Composing high-quality text using appropriate voice, vocabulary, and technical level for target audience; using clear, concise language to summarize research and explain/exemplify concepts
• Writing marketing or website copy when necessary
• Taking ownership of writing for specific book projects and completing them within set timelines
• Preparing manuscripts by applying formatting templates and/or coding text for designer using styles in Microsoft Word; creating own text designs when necessary

The ideal candidate must be a college graduate (bachelor’s degree in English or a related field) with excellent spelling, organizational, and communication skills. Applicants must be well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style and the APA Style Manual; be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel with advanced skills in Microsoft Word; and demonstrate developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and design skills on tests.
