Seeking a detail-oriented individual with expert-level copyediting (hard copy and electronically) and proofreading skills to assist in managing the editorial process for an independent midsize book publisher with an annual list of 100 titles including fiction, non-fiction and specialty titles. Individual will be responsible for working with Editorial, Design and Production departments to create and track workable schedules that support sales and marketing deadlines and ensure timely delivery of galleys and books; copyediting and proofreading book interiors, jacket copy and marketing materials; guiding books through the preproduction process including collating and checking corrections on page layouts, cover and jacket proofs and bluelines; hiring, managing and evaluating freelance copyeditors and proofreaders; tracking book-related materials for sales and marketing uses; working on seasonal catalogs.

Qualifications include 3 years' experience as a managing editor or production editor in the book industry; thorough command of the Chicago Manual of Style; experience hiring and managing freelancers; proven ability to create and manage schedules, track multiple projects and meet important editorial production dates in a deadline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically across departments.
