|John F. Blair, Publisher seeks applicants for a Sales Manager to manage the sales program for this 60-year-old independent press located in Winston-Salem, N.C.|
A. Collecting and organizing data about new titles for biannual catalogs. This data includes new titles from 10+ independent presses, which are distributed by Blair plus the 10+ new titles that Blair produces annually.
B. Supervise timely submission of all new title information to databases.
C Sell to major accounts and supervise commission gift and book trade sales reps for other accounts.
D. Conduct sales conferences, supervise preparation of sales kits and tip sheets for reps and major buyers.
E. Oversee monthly mailing of review copies and communicate weekly publicity updates to buyers and sales reps.
F. Liaison with distribution clients to ensure timely submission of new title data, delivery of new books, and responses to customer service questions.
G. Play a major role in acquisition of new books and selection of book covers.
H. Supervise sales assistants and coordinate activities with marketing staff.
I. Oversee maintenance of Blair’s website and social media presence.
J. Oversee e-book sales.
K. Supervise Blair’s exhibits at trade shows and book festivals. Some travel is involved for these shows.
L. Oversee booking bookstore signings for author publicity tours.
M. Oversee backlist inventory.
A. Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of experience in the book industry.
B. Knowledge of current publishing industry practices and trends.
C. Ability to plan programs, meet deadlines, and work within budgets.
D. Ability to communicate orally, especially in sales presentations, and write clear, concise prose, especially for catalog copy.
E. Familiarity with social media.
F. Ability to manage a large number of diverse tasks.
G. Some experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and Excel is desirable.
H. Willingness to work with a small, but enthusiastic, staff.
Salary: $45,000 with bonus tied to increase in sales
