The Acquisitions Editor in our Fiction department will acquire and develop 12-15 titles per year and ensure on-time, on-budget releases. The Acquisitions Editor also develops relationships with agents and potential authors, gaining insight into the strongest projects for the team to pursue as well as which opportunities to bypass. Additional and essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversees editorial development of books acquired, including the delivery of expert and timely editorial feedback and strong author management. Maintain editorial schedule for titles of responsibility and traffic material to sales, marketing, production, design, and managing editorial departments in an efficient manner to meet production schedules. Shepherd the titling, packaging, and cataloging process for acquired titles. Review and responds to manuscript submissions. Facilitate timely responses to agents and authors. Negotiate with authors and/or agents in a manner that is fair and within financial benchmarks and develops, nurtures and grows author and agent relationships; strong editorial judgment about which authors to acquire and resign. Represent HCCP Fiction persuasively to the larger company and within the broader Christian Fiction community, including at writer’s conferences and industry trade shows as needed. Candidate will also possess expertise in cultural, entertainment, and publishing trends.


Desired candidate will have the ability to work with authors to develop superior content, juggle multiple assignments at any given time and to meet all deadlines, manage and coach creative people with a desire to see them thrive, make independent decisions and show initiative, and work with others in a team environment. Candidate will also have excellent editing and proofreading skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of ownership and responsibility. They must be passionate about fiction and specifically Christian fiction, and their personal characteristics would include: creative, visionary thinker, decisive, well-organized, strategic planner, relationship builder, and networking ability.


Candidate will possess 3–5 years’ of editing experience, with at least two years focused on acquisitions and developmental editing. Experience in Christian publishing preferred.

A Bachelor’s degree in English, or related field, desired.
