The Marketing & Publicity Specialist position in our Fiction department oversees book promotion campaign development, execution, and analysis for fiction titles assigned to his or her care. Promotional campaigns include advertising, traditional media (reviews, features, interviews), and social media outreach and network building. Ideal candidate is self-starting, creative, collaborative, organized, persevering, teachable, desiring to serve. Candidate exemplifies a passion for great story and helping stories find their readers. Work environment is fast-paced and quickly changing as our team continues to seek best practices in our evolving industry. Further duties include, but are not limited to: Work closely with Director of Marketing & Publicity, develop and implement marketing and publicity plans for assigned titles. Identify messaging and tangible selling hooks for each product release as well as for genre and thematic campaigns. Develop press materials and advertising copy. Manage budget development and expense projections for assigned campaigns. Coordinate vendor and freelance relations for assigned campaigns, including designers and marketing and PR firms as applicable. Execute media buys. Pitch and follow up with media outlets. Direct development of creative and sales assets to meet communication goals of marketing and publicity plans. Create implementation schedules for all assigned marketing and publicity campaigns ensuring all stakeholders are aware of planned efforts, due dates and responsibilities. Track marketing campaign results and generates data reporting for measuring effectiveness and ROI. Create product descriptions populating catalogs and product-specific sales materials, focusing on needs-based messaging and meeting all input deadlines. Develop presentations for sales conferences and author training as assigned. Assist in trade show and conference planning and materials development as assigned. Manage direct-to-consumer email marketing programs and use of social media platforms belonging to the division, and coaches authors on the same.
Desired candidate will have familiarity with commercial fiction, and understanding of marketing and publicity best practices and relationships with advertising reps and media outlets. Will have basic understanding of development of print, digital, audio, video advertising and be technically proficiency with marketing tools and software programs. Candidate will possess strong writing skills, including some experience with press materials, advertising copy, and communication with clients.
Candidate will possess 3 years’ experience in marketing, publicity, or other communications field, with 3-5 years’ experience marketing books desired but not required.
A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Literature, or other related Humanities discipline. Additional publishing programs a plus but not required.
