About this position:

Baker Publishing Group is seeking an Acquisitions Editor for the Baker Books division. The individual in this position will be responsible for acquiring in Baker Books’ key publishing categories, including nonfiction trade, church and ministry resources, and popular reference. Related duties include evaluating solicited and unsolicited proposals, proposing titles to the division publishing committee, negotiating contracts with authors and agents, assessing initial drafts and manuscript development, and representing acquired titles through each step of prepublication planning and development. Travel is required.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Bible, theology, or related field, or equivalent knowledge
• At least three years of publishing and/or relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of the Christian book industry
• Self-starter who can set and meet personal goals
• Strong interpersonal skills; superior verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proven ability to identify and assess the potential success of publishing ideas
• Diverse network of author and agent contacts; proven ability to network effectively
• Ability to assess manuscripts and make recommendations for improvement
• Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, follow schedules, and meet deadlines
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with database functions

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a full time position, benefits provided include health, dental, group life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, 401(k) after one year, and others.
