Description
The Professional Media Department of the American Library Association is a print and digital publisher of books, periodicals, and promotional materials for the library profession and seeks a Publisher for its ALA Publishing imprint.

The imprint publishes books, e-books, databases, online learning webinars and courses, and promotional materials that support libraries, literacy and reading.
The Publisher manages a staff of 16 in acquisitions, production and marketing.

This position reports to the Associate Executive Director, Head of the Publishing Department.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement the net revenue strategy for a $5 million business. Set and meet goals for 70 to 75 new and revised titles per year.

Provide leadership to ensure high level performance in meeting product development schedules, contract stipulations, budget stipulations, and market demands. Promote the competitive advantages of the imprint with influence leaders within ALA headquarters, the association membership, and the library and information services profession at large.

Requirements: Minimum of 10-15 years experience in book publishing business, including experience as an acquisitions editor, preferably in the professional and reference book sector and
3-5 years of management experience. Relevant bachelor’s degree.

Evidence of high output, high payoff accomplishments with the ability to recognize and capitalize on market trends. Ability to manage competing priorities and numerous deadlines.

Experience in managing managers and creative professionals is key. Ability to foster team environment, and work collaboratively with staff, publishers, members, media and vendors.
