The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, founded in 1780, is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious scholarly organizations. The Academy is an independent policy research center that conducts multidisciplinary studies of complex and emerging problems. We have an immediate opening for an Assistant Editor/Senior Editorial Assistant to work in the Office of Publications.

Responsibilities include:

• editing Academy publications, including Daedalus, the Bulletin, books, and research papers and monographs
• editing grant proposals, reports, and correspondence
• editing copy for the Academy website and other PR or marketing materials
• page layout of Daedalus
• some general writing, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3 to 4 years of full-time experience in an editorial role
• Demonstrated ability to copyedit scholarly and journalistic prose
• Experience and competence with Microsoft Office
• Excellent written communication skills
• Experience with Quark
• Experience working in a membership-based, constituent-focused organization and/or in higher education a plus
• Strong attention to detail as well as the ability to manage one’s time and prioritize numerous projects
