|The University of Washington Press seeks a creative and innovative Editor in Chief to lead and develop its editorial program.|
Reporting to the Director of the press, the Editor in Chief is a key member of the management team and is responsible for directing and developing the press's publishing program and managing the acquisitions department. Working closely with the Director and other departmental managers, he/she plays a major role in press-wide goal-setting, strategic planning, and establishing press policies and procedures. The Editor in Chief sets departmental goals and monitors and evaluates the work of individual acquisitions editors. The Editor in Chief represents the press throughout the university, including serving as primary liaison with the UW faculty Press Committee, and the academy at large by attending professional conferences and through campus visits. He/she remains current with emerging and new trends in print and digital publishing. The Editor in Chief is also responsible for personally acquiring and transmitting 15-20 high-quality, marketable new manuscripts a year in fields published by UW Press. He/she works with the press's Advancement and Grants Manager to seek funding to support individual titles and broader disciplinary areas and series, as needed, and participates in the press's fundraising activities.
