|The President and Director oversees the Press’s initiative in all areas of book and electronic product acquisition, development, production, marketing, sales and distribution. Key responsibilities include leading the Press’s strategic planning; continually evaluating and updating the focus of the Press’s publishing program; establishing and maintaining positive ongoing contact with members of the scholarly community including authors, editors and faculty; and representing the Press in its relations with the University, sister presses, publishing organizations, and the international publishing community.|
The successful candidate must have a strong management presence, exceptional motivational skills, editorial vision, strategic planning abilities, a thorough understanding of publishing financials, substantial experience with ebook and other forms of digital publication, and the ability to formulate innovative new approaches for university press publishing at a time when the publishing landscape is changing. He/she should have an established network of contacts with academic authors and scholarly societies, an understanding of university culture, and the ability to seek out and work closely with faculty and others at Columbia to maximize the university’s resources in the building of a first-class press.
