VIZ Media is looking for a Publishing Marketing Manager to join our Publishing Sales & Marketing team!

• Demonstrated past success in ownership of marketing campaigns from design to execution to reporting A MUST
• MUST be able to travel as needed
• Prior experience in building, executing, and reporting on comprehensive multi-channel marketing campaigns, preferably in the publishing and/or entertainment industry a STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Professional understanding of the publishing and/or entertainment market targeted at children, preteens and/or teens STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Knowledge of consumer entertainment such as anime, manga, comics and/or games PREFERRED

SUMMARY
The Publishing Marketing Manager develops and executes coordinated marketing efforts to build brand identity and expand the customer base for the company’s adult and children’s book lines. Responsibilities of this position will include the developing & execution of innovative marketing campaigns and programs, from planning through implementation, optimization and measurement of impact.

This position must be able to take full ownership over key marketing Initiatives and understand which metrics will be measured to evaluate the execution of such activities. This position will maintain a calendar of comprehensive marketing plans that creatively leverage available resources, including SEO and SEM, VIZ Media’s large network inventory, paid media, retail promotions, viral, trade marketing and other vehicles.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Develops and executes innovative marketing campaigns and programs, from planning through implementation, optimization and measurement of impact.
2. Delivers key marketing metrics, including ROI, as defined by the business. Performs analyses of specific marketing initiatives and prepares reports to interpret results and refine strategy as needed.
3. Maintains calendar of comprehensive marketing plans that creatively leverage available resources, including SEO and SEM, VIZ Media’s large network inventory, paid media, offline promotions, viral, trade marketing and other vehicles.
4. Manages creation of marketing collateral such as advertising, display components, dummies, and promotional items, working with both in-house staff and third-party vendors (designers, printers, etc.)
5. Maintains social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) and executes website promotions.
6. Works closely with the PR & Events Manager to plan and execute consumer outreach events, including conventions, author appearances, and other special programs.
7. Supervises the marketing lifecycle process and day-to-day marketing planning and execution for designated properties and products.
8. Creates and manages both overall and property-specific marketing budgets.
9. Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas, including but not limited to the Editorial, Licensing, Digital Publishing, and Animation departments to execute specific marketing plans.
10. Develops and maintains media contacts and leverages appropriate external partnerships to maximize marketing opportunities.
11. Constantly monitors competitive trends, developing marketing strategies that build on product strengths and target growth opportunities
12. Represents VIZ Media at events such as presentations, consumer conventions, and trade shows

In addition to these responsibilities, performs other activities as assigned.


MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of graphic design programs, specifically Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) a PLUS
• Familiarity with online media and content management systems a PLUS
• Proficiency with Mac operating systems
• Proficiency with standard productivity programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Proficiency with computer usage, including email, Internet, and standard software
• Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English
• Ability to pay strong attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff
• Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork
• Ability to work legally in the United States
• Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area

MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
• 5-7 years of relevant business experience
• Prior experience in building, executing, and reporting on comprehensive multi-channel marketing campaigns, preferably in the publishing and/or entertainment industry a STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not supervise others, but may give guidance to the work of interns and freelancers.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as copiers and faxes.

As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. Employees should be willing to work with this type of content. VIZ Media does not condone the viewing of this content where not work-related.

OTHER INFORMATION
Employees must adhere to all applicable VIZ Media policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Willingness and ability to work non-standard business hours, such as nights and weekends, on an as-needed basis is required. Employees must be able to cope effectively with deadlines and multiple demands.
