Job Description
Part of the Amazon.com Inc. group of companies, Brilliance Publishing is seeking an experienced and innovative leader for the role of Associate Publisher, based in our New York City, Seattle, or preferably, Grand Haven, Michigan, offices. As Associate Publisher for our two non-fiction imprints, you will oversee all content acquisition for our Grand Harbor and Waterfall Press imprints. As the leader of these businesses, your mission will be to improve, develop, and refine our editorial strategy, processes, and standards while working with top-notch editors and authors to create a world-class publishing experience. This is a multi-faceted job in a start-up environment that requires flexibility, agility, and the unique ability to balance acquisition with business leadership.

Position details:
- Define the imprint strategies and lead the team to deliver on financial and operational performance targets
- Develop, refine, and drive the editorial vision, goals, and measures of success for Brilliance Publishing Imprints
- Oversee and participate in content acquisition for imprints
- Hire, lead and develop a very small team, fostering a creative, collaborative environment both internally and externally
- Identify, evaluate, and develop submissions and proposals through a team of editors with the goal of acquiring exceptional work
- Drive development of new data-driven models to identify high potential works for publication
- Support the development of new editorial and marketing programs in partnership with internal teams
- Develop strong partnerships with other Amazon Publishing partners and resources to maximize both the imprint’s success as well as the greater Amazon Publishing family’s success
- Relentless improvement of the authors experience with Amazon. Your area of responsibility extends from initial outreach to candidates through to the execution of their publishing contract, as well as all aspects of the production of their work into print, digital, and audio formats
- Identify and define opportunities for growth and strategic partnerships
- The position requires travel within the U.S. once every other month
- Ability to represent the company well when dealing with customers and licensors
- Sensitivity to the nuances of publishing books written for the inspirational and Christian markets

Qualifications
- BA/BS required
- Four or more years of relevant publishing experience in editorial, content acquisition, or rights management businesses
- Demonstrated experience and successful track record working with authors and agents
- Two or more years working directly with creative professionals (authors, musicians, or other artists/content producers)
- Proficient use of Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications
- Superb written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write a crisp and clear narrative to express ideas
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to measure results and interpret data to drive initiatives along with the ability to use compelling data and metrics to influence others
- An understanding of the latest developments in digital content and formats
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Eight or more years of experience leading a team of direct reports
- The ability to take a systems view of publishing processes to help interact with production teams
- Demonstrated success in delivering top results in a high growth environment with ambiguity and shifting priorities
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results by influencing and negotiating
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with senior management, and an intense customer focus
- Passion for books and a great appetite for reading
- Demonstrates high judgment based upon thoughtful analysis and product vision
- Dives deep without losing sight of the larger vision
- Manages innovation and brings creative ideas of others to market
- Motivates others by creating a climate in which people want to do their best
- The ability to work with multiple teams in multiple locations
- An overall understanding of how a publisher works from editorial acquisition to sales and distribution
