Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic Senior Publicist to join our talented team.

This role is to be an integral part of the leadership and vision of the Publicity and Marketing Campaigns team offering involvement in both the conception and execution of the positioning and publicity of the Candlewick list, both upcoming titles and backlist and helping to create marketing plans and overseeing printed and electronic materials describing such. He or she will be the primary liaison between their select authors and illustrators and the media as well as the bookseller community.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Involvement in creating general marketing and publicity plans for upcoming lists.
• Overseeing publicity campaigns for select projects
• Planning and executing author tours when appropriate, including traveling with select authors while on tour as well as festivals and national conferences when needed
• Planning and managing the creation of items needed for promotion and publicity of assigned titles
• Overseeing the budget for the creation of needed promotional and publicity materials as well as for author tours.
• Managing publicity award submissions when appropriate
• Helping coordinate Candlewick presence at BEA
• Participating in Candlewick marketing via trade organizations including ABA IndieBound, the CBC, and others

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A minimum of seven years’ experience in a publicity role at a publishing house or within the media industry is necessary and children’s publishing experience is strongly preferred. Prior management experience is a plus and a robust knowledge of the children’s publishing marketplace as well as strong media contacts is critical. The ability to travel is also required.
