Wizards, New TSR Owner, Will Make Good on Debts
Jim Milliot -- 6/23/97
Wizards of the Coast has completed its acquisition of TSR (News, Apr. 21) and is in the process of integrating the publisher of science fiction books and adventure games into its own operations. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although Wizards' president Peter Adkinson told PW the company intends to pay creditors by the end of June.
Before its acquisition by Wizards, TSR was at least six months behind on its royalty payments to authors, and had approximately $13 million in claims against it from suppliers.

Wizards will gradually phase out TSR's Wisconsin offices, but has offered jobs to 70 TSR employees out of its total staff of 85. Wizards will retain the TSR name, and Adkinson said the company expects to have new TSR products, including books, in the marketplace by early August. Random House will continue to serve as TSR's distributor to the book trade.
