Looks like a very big year for Charles Frazier. Not only has his debut novel, Cold Mountain, gotten rave reviews, but it is also enjoying commercial success, having made the national lists, including PW's and the New York Times. A first printing of 25,000 copies is long gone and Atlantic Monthly is nearing 100,000 copies in print. And now the piece de resistance -- United Artists has bought the screen rights for $1.25 million. Word is that Anthony Minghella -- who won this year's Academy Award for directing his adaptation of The English Patient -- may be on the docket for writing and directing Frazier's Civil War drama.
