Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus mysteries have more than two million copies in print and, with her ninth book, Prayers for the Dead, climbing the national mass market paperback charts, her publisher, Avon, is looking forward to even higher print totals. The latest mystery debuted mid-June with a 700,000 first printing and 15-second TV spots in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles (the author's hometown). The paperback includes a teaser chapter for Kellerman's next mystery, Serpent's Tooth, which Morrow is launching in August with a 175,000-copy first printing. A starred PW review said that Kellerman's 10th is "another standout entry in an evolving series." Drive-time radio ads and outdoor ads at L.A. beaches in August, plus a full-page ad in People, are just some of the elements in Morrow's hardcover campaign.
